For clarification's sake, DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation

I was considering purchasing the voicebot software but have a concern. I noticed that your software uses the default windows audio selected in windows control panel > sound. In my case the selected default sound system selected would be an outboard audio interface. It would need to remain so in order to function correctly with the audio editing software. (ProTools and Cubase)

Is there a way to set up voicebot so that my voice commands would be recognized by the recording input of the pc's motherboard while the existing outboard audio device remains the default?

DAW software is typically dense with drop down menu's and shortcut keys so a tool like voicebot seems wonderful in the expanses of my imagination.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

If I understand correctly, you just want to change which recording input VoiceBot listens on? If so, you should be able to select whichever one you like using the drop-down in the upper right of the main VoiceBot window (next to the Play/Pause button).

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the response Keith,

What I don't want to happen is the drop down menu offering an audio input from the outboard gear. What I'm hoping is that the drop down menu gives me an opportunity to select a motherboard resource. Yes?

Ah, I see! Right now we're limited to the default device (a .NET limitation), so while you can change it using the drop-down in VoiceBot, that does indeed change the system default for "Recording Sounds."

We are planning to look into wrapping the speech recognition stuff ourselves at some point, so that we can do things like use non-default input devices, so I'll add your info to that ticket. We'll definitely let you know if/when we're able to implement that.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response and clarification. I sure hope for both our sakes you guys can work that out. I'd use the heck out of it.. and I bet it'd open up a huge market niche for you guys. Please do let me know if that comes on line, and thanks again.

I use Voicebot with Tracktion 5 and I have made a profile.

what this software does is allow you to assign macros to certain words, or basically automate things with macros. and they are controlled by your voice.

It has audio input settings, but if you know anything at all about programming you can write just about anything for it.

HI Eric,
How did you get around the aspect of voicebot utilizing the default audio device? I apologize in advance if my terminology is inaccurate. The DAW software I use is ProTools and Cubase. Both essentially take over the defined default audio device or they do not function. How are you able to route the input signal used by the voicebot in a manner that does not interfere with the function of the default audio device? I can imagine a scenario where the voicebot software would be interpreting any number of multitrack audio running, as a voice command to run a macro... which would make it pretty useless in that scenario.
Is it possible to route through the default audio? OR is there a way to assign an input from the outboard audio interface, thru the DAW and to the voicebot software? OR will the I/O panels in the DAW see voicebot as a valid output destination?

Thanks

HI Eric,
How did you get around the aspect of voicebot utilizing the default audio device?

I have 2 seperate boards in my system.

One is a Mackie 12 chanel Pro FX 12 with USB out. this is what I use for the DAW for my actual recording.

Soundcard 2 is just the main board soundcard.

What I do is use a diff mic and gain it appropriately so that I can use the computer soundcard.

then its simple from there, you set the soundcard on Voicebot / Upper right corner of main window.

Then you can test it, It wont really work that well while playing. but all of the functions work with it.

you can do the same for the default speakers, just grab a pair of shitty ones and use them for the onboard soundcard.

Thank you Eric,

I've got a motherboard with audio resources while I access DAW via an UAD Apollo. I'll give it a try. Thanks so much for taking the time to chime in. Really hoping this will allow for some hands free during the creative stage of tracking.

..and Cubase)

Woahhh!! This is almost like my Holy Grail to get voice commands working with Cubase.

To save many hours of creating, testing and editing at this end please could you (or any other Cubase user) somehow upload/share/email the profile you made for Cubase?

I really, really look forward to trying this out.. thanks!
